Hi Friends! It has been a while. I've kept busy with work and have been learning how to use Canva for designing greetings and illustrations. Also, may I say, I've been blessed to avoid getting Covid, knock on wood. But the pandemic reinforced a tendency to hermit and wiped me out emotionally. Every day, I think about people I love who have been affected directly. So, I'm gathering up my energy through exercise and meditation. And trying to share it through creativity. Today was a mournful day in world history, where a would-be despot and the genuine article came together as like-minded individuals, their nations notwithstanding. I sat agape as American press were barred from televising interviews, instead, disseminating prepared statements. I feel very blue, and yet... ...I feel like I've uncovered a great treasure through no effort of my own. I think the principal cause is preserving civil rights in all their diversity. And it hit me this morning, this is the new leadership for 2018 and the whole spectrum of causes that will shape the platform. The Blue Barn Theater named by Slate magazine one of the eight Best Things America Built in 2016 Slate has named the Blue Barn Theater,  which inaugurated its own performance space last year  in Omaha, Nebraska, as one of the eight Best Things America Built in 2016.  My little sister,  Michelle Zacharia  has been involved with the Blue Barn in publicity design, set design, props, costuming, and as an actress, since the organization's infancy. The theater had functioned out of a rented space in the artsy Old Market District of Omaha since the late 1980s, and have performed in far-flung locations like an abandoned train station. Congratulations, Blue Barn, Mishy, and  Susan Clement , Artistic Director! And thank you, Slate, for being a publication with a conscience!

Well, no one is going to care whether I write another poem or not, and what a strange topic for the beginning of the year.  This is usually an equinoxal kind of musing. I'm obsessed with the feeling of being in the last three weeks or so of our Democracy. Flawed though it may be, overflowing with corrupt figures, yet no president in our USA past ever before flaunted an admiration for dictators. I don't think any past president treated the media with so much contempt or has shown such a lust to dismantle our institutions. Bunches of people have called the new regime a kleptocracy, a plutocracy, an idiocracy. I disagree. It's one smart dude playing dumb a-la-W telling you what he plans to do but it sounds so outrageous that you don't take it seriously. To me, he's headed toward autocracy.
